Akron/Family – Love is Simple

How much you enjoy the new Akron / Family album (their third in as many years) will depend on your tolerance for touchy feely hippy, jam band nonsense. Best advice is to just embrace your inner jam band and go with it, for it will yield great rewards. Plans to make a record influenced by drone metal legends Earth have been abandoned in favour of a concept album about love – hoorah! They love each other! They love us! We should all love each other! All you need is love! While A/F have always had chops up the hoo hah, actual songs have been harder to come by. The input of Ween producer Andrew Weiss helps put this right providing some outsider perspective. The likes of ‘Ed Is A Portal’ and ‘I’ve Got Some Friends’ reach dude factor 10 with a head nod rating of ‘warning – potential risk of neck strain’ Group hug everybody.
