David Holmes may have provided the soundtracks for Hollywood flicks like Out of Sight and Ocean’s Eleven (and Twelve and Thirteen), but the former hairdresser hasn’t forgotten his Belfast roots.
A new CD put together by Carling and Belfast’s Oh Yeah music centre will feature an exclusive new bonus track from Holmes alongside eight local luminaries – And So I Watch You From Afar, Panama Kings, LaFaro, Kowalski, Cashier No. 9, mojoFURY, General Fiasco and The Jane Bradfords.
Holmes’ track, ‘McCready Rides Again’, was self-produced and recorded recently in Belfast. The album is also graced by a taster for the upcoming debut album by Portadown’s space rock wunderkinds In Case of Fire. If they aren’t massive by this time next year, we’ll eat our jauntily-tipped hats.
The Oh Yeah centre was set up in Belfast’s resurgent Cathedral Quarter less than two years ago, in an attempt to provide the city vibrant music scene with a focal point. One of the founders, music journalist Stuart Bailie, said, “David is a maverick and he recognizes that Oh Yeah is trying to do something different. He’s encouraged us from the start and this track is a magnificent gift. We’re also honoured to have In Case of Fire on board, plus the eight excellent bands that are at the heart of this project. The music is exceptional, the artists are at their best and the cause is a good one.”
Proceeds from the CD, entitled ‘Carling Supports: The Oh Yeah Sessions ’08’, will go towards the renovation of the Oh Yeah building, a former whiskey warehouse. More information about the centre is available here (www.ohyeahbelfast.com)
