Remember Remember – The Quickening
Rock Action

This, the first full-length album from Remember Remember following last year’s RR Scorpii EP, is very much a slow-burning, almost cinematic experience. Upon first glance it seems slightly too ambitious but The Quickening reveals itself further with every listen as new melodies appear from every layer of instrumentation, all of which serve each composition effectively, even down to the simple chimes of the glockenspiel. Coming from many angles in terms of influence – there are some Seventies-inspired proggy undertones, Philip Glass-esque minimalist soundscapes – the album sounds not completely dissimilar to what Animal Collective might sound like without vocals. The Quickening is an album which doesn’t strike the listener at first but, if given the chance, is a challenging and absorbing experience. Stevie Lennox
