It makes sense that little is known about Still Corners; the enigmatic Londoners, signed to Sub Pop, make the sort of music that seems to dissolve into thin air, leaving behind nothing but a gauzy imprint on the minds of anyone who’s been drawn into their mystical pop reverie. Their debut album is a woozy concoction of hypnotic flickers and off-kilter squalls, singer Tessa Murray’s ghostly vocals drifting gorgeously over a soundtrack of Stereolab-esque funereal organs and glistening cymbals, while the unsettling ‘I Wrote In Blood’ sounds like the cast from The Wicker Man and Twin Peaks converging at a Beach House gig. It’s totally derivative and a little too sluggish to keep attention piqued throughout, but as first efforts go, it’s a hugely impressive effort. Lauren Murphy
