Hot on the tail of 2011’s second album comes this third full-length from Brooklyn noiseniks The Men. Beginning with a fuzzed-up surf rock lick, Open Your Heart is a rambunctious fusion of styles, but one which is centred around – what else? – country music. Of course, we’re not talking Gram Parsons or Dolly Parton here, but more the dystopian muscle-flexing of The Cramps. Still, in the jittery frenzy of ‘Animal’, the lilting (and aptly named) instrumental ‘Country Song’, the feedback-swathed melancholy of ‘Please Don’t Go Away’ and the urgent drive of the title track, there are hints of a genre that The Men have subverted, perverted and converted into something awash with a raw, untamed and ebullient energy.
