The Knife’s last album Silent Shout did well, but it’s possible that their vocalist Karin Dreijer Andersson’s first (and only, we think) solo album has made even bigger waves. Granted, much of that is probably down to an almighty promotional push (it’s been re-released already) and a series of stunning videos, but don’t overlook how good the music is. Aesthetically, Fever Ray is in the same ballpark to Silent Shout – icy electro-pop, essentially – but Andersson’s tales of motherhood and solitude have served to humanise the music, making her work more accessible than ever. It’s still fucking scary, though.
