BEST OF 2007: Jack Peñate

LDN wideboy and dead sound geezer extraordinaire Jack sprung from the traps earlier this year with a bundle of musical gifts in debut offering ‘Matinee’. We sat him down for five minutes with a big steaming cup of questionnaire and sought answers to our reflective, end of 2007 mind boggler.

How was your 2007?
In a word? Banging.

What were your highlights?
Playing at Glastonbury, Reading and London Astoria stand out as the big moments, at least live and in terms of musical fulfillment.

What were your lowlights?
The morning after the highlights…

What was the weirdest thing that happened to you this year?
Seeing a dwarf selling roses in a bar in Hamburg while a German boy sung ‘Lose Yourself’ by Eminem on acoustic guitar.

Did you achieve everything you set out to at the start of the year?
No not at all, I’ve got so many things I still need to do.

Did you make any new musical discoveries?
Vampire Weekend and Wild Beasts.

What was your favourite album by another band or artist?
Beirut ‘The Flying Club Cup’.

What was your favourite live moment (either your own or someone else’s)?
When I played ‘Torn On The Platform’ at Reading Festival.

In ten years time how do you think you’ll view this year in your life?
That I was very naive and had to cope with the huge changes in my life.

Sum up your 2007 in seven words.
It was really really really really great.

What are you hoping for in 2008?
To work with Lewis Hamilton on a musical side project where I record the album in his F1 car.
