Five To One: Movie Buddies
Throughout the years, cinema has never failed to simulate the powerful emotions that exist between two male friends. Here at AU, we hoked out our flux capacitor, and kept the needle at eighty-eight miles per hour to take a look at the 5 greatest movie buddies of all time.
5. Wayne and Garth
Was there anything cooler than Wayne and Garth in 1995? Even though many of us were in Primary School when they first appeared on cinematograph screens, the trickle-down effect had many children proclaiming schwing as their religion and saying ‘live in the now’ to each other. Wayne later went on to play hilarious penis enthusiast Dr. Powers and Dana ‘Garth’ Carvey became a terrifying ghost.
4. Bill and Ted
In retrospect, it’s hard to tell if these two rad roister-doisters were very cool or completely shit. Whatever, they had amazing shorts and stole a lot of their ideas from Dr. Who. Such was their films’ success that Keanu Reeves turned his back on acting and appeared in the Matrix films, while Ted (or Bill, or whatever) was killed by Dana ‘Garth’ Carvey’s terrifying ghost, ironically becoming a spooky ghost himself in the process.
3. Han Solo and Chewbacca
Who wouldn’t want to hang about with these cosmic companions? Han could have the ladies flocking to your table with a click of his fingers, while Chewie’s awesome strength could guarantee you the freedom to make ma jokes at whoever you want. And with their cool ship the Millennium Falcon to get around in, you’d be up to your ears in cracking birds. Interesting fact: Chewbacca is a convicted bin-hoker.
2. Doc Brown and Marty McFly
Marty and the Doc had some pretty mad shit going on: their car could travel through time, they invented rock’n’roll and sorted it out for Marty to shift the face off his own mother in a car park. After the success of the Back To The Future movies, Doc Brown went into the business of inventing cow-murdering machines as he said they were “much more fun…you should see their faces”.
1. The Brokeback Mountain Lads
While none of us here at AU Towers have yet seen this Oscar-grabber or even heard what it’s about, we think these two likely lads look like a lot of fun. As a pair of happy-go-lucky cowboys, Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger probably get into all kinds of steer-ropin’, rootin’ (and indeed tootin’) hayseed scrapes and squeezes on that there mountain, while making the best of manly friends. Good on them, that’s the kind of life we all want!
