Three of Northern Ireland’s finest rock bands, Downpatrick’s Ash, Derry three-piece Fighting With Wire and Portadown’s In Case Of Fire will be representing at this year’s Download Festival. Commonly considered the most prestigious rock and metal festival in Europe, the three day event runs from June 13 to 15 in Donington Park. The invitation to perform at the raucous extravaganza is quite a coup for the bands, and for ICOF and FWW just the latest remarkable development in an already incredible 2008. The two acts secured record deals earlier in the year with FWW being picked up by Atlantic.
Download 2008 promises to be one of the most remarkable on record. The opening Friday is a rock fan’s dream with none other than the might Kiss headlining. Yes, face paint, waggling tongues and huge anthems at the ready, as Gene Simmons brings his rock ‘n’ roll carnival to town. The rest of the bill isn’t bad either, with Judas Priest and Motorhead completing the opening day’s unholy trilogy of rock greats.
The other headliners are The Offspring on Saturday 14 June and Lost Prophets on Sunday June 15. Other acts to watch out for are AU fave’s Biffy Clyro on Saturday and Jimmy Eat World and Lethal Bizzle on Sunday. Those of you not fortunate enough to be able to attend can read our in-depth review of the Festival in AU48.
