Kurt Cobain: The Converse Trainer
It’s what he would have wanted. It has been reported that Converse are bringing out a new trainer ‘inspired’ by Kurt Cobain. The trainers will feature Cobain’s name, lyrics and signature and have been approved by his widow Courtney Love. The shoe is part of the one hundredth anniversary celebrations for Converse.
Other artists due to be inducted into their footwear hall of fame include the (too-dead-to-know-better) Ian Curtis, Sid Vicious and Hunter S. Thompson and (off the artistic rollcall) Joan Jett, Common and Karen O.
Last year, Doc Martens sought to use Cobain’s image and were firmly rebuffed by Love, who branded their idea “outrageous and despicable.” However, time has tamed her and she has subsequently sanctioned a Cobain lunchbox. News of the Converse shoe follows the recent announcement that the Cobain estate has been defrauded to the tune of £36 million. Any suggestion that the two stories are in anyway linked and Courtney’s money pot needs replenished are wildly unsubstantiated.
