Joe Lean & The Ding Dang Dong

Debut album pulled at the last minute

Curious developments in the life of Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong with the buzz band announcing the 11th hour cancellation of their self-titled debut album. The record was scheduled for release on August 4 with promo copies already distributed for review. The change of heart was prompted by the band’s manager Raye Cosbert, who suggested that the album had been recorded too early in their career and did not represent who Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong are now.

Hilariously, the press release accompanying album promos sounded a somewhat different note, suggesting that the record was “fresh, alive and totally of the moment”. Obviously that moment has passed. The band’s label Vertigo/Mercury have authorised the cancellation of the record and backed the band to record and deliver another “fresh” debut at the beginning of 2009.

Having heard the aborted album, AU can confirm it is distinctly average, Libertines aping indie-pop. Truth be told we’re somewhat disappointed that it isn’t an abomination of comical proportions. Still we don’t understand how it merits the 8/10 awarded by NME.
