The Oh Yeah Centre in Belfast will play host to a special gig on May 2 to celebrate its link-up with Strummerville, the new music foundation set up in memory of the late Clash frontman Joe Strummer. The gig will feature live sets from The Wild Wolves and Dan Smith from London, plus Belfast’s own Panama Kings and Axis Of, as well as a DJ set from Noel Watson.
The event is in honour of two new rooms that are opening at the Centre, for songwriting and rehearsing. The Strummerville foundation is also involved in giving advice to young musicians, and there will be a series of workshops entitled ‘Best Practice: Getting The Most From Your Rehearsals’.
Stuart Bailie from Oh Yeah said, “”My generation in Northern Ireland was massively informed by The Clash. They taught us to look beyond sectarianism and dead traditions and to imagine a more adventurous future. The Strummer legacy is still alive in Belfast and it’s a thrill to have a real connection to Joe in our building.”
