Contrary to reports today, LCD Soundsystem are not on hold. James Murphy, who helms the New York disco-punk act, has told the NME that he has songs written and he plans to record them for a third LCD album, which will be the first since 2007’s Sound Of Silver.
“I write all my music in my head, I never demo,” Murphy said. “I get to a point where there are too many songs and I have to get them recorded. I recently felt that. I’ve got eight in my head – that’s critical mass.”
Earlier, live guitarist and full-time Hot Chip member Al Doyle had claimed in a BBC interview that the LCD Soundsystem name may never return, with Murphy keen for the same personnel to tour as a backing band for a cast of Seventies disco heroes. However, Murphy admits that he likes to keep his plans secret, saying, “When I start recording I don’t tell anyone, not even my manager.”
