Carling Supports: Oh Yeah Sessions ‘08 - Showcase Record Launched

Special daytime gig planned to celebrate release of NI showcase album

As recently reported on this very site, the ‘Carling Supports: Oh Yeah Sessions ‘08′ album was launched this week in Belfast’s Oh Yeah Centre with performances from some of the bands involved (including And So I Watch You From Afar, pictured).
Featuring tracks recorded and/or mixed in the centre from 9 locally-based bands - and an exclusive from David Holmes’ new album - the record is raising funds for Oh Yeah, set up to provide a hub for Belfast’s music scene.

Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody is a staunch supporter of the centre and a member of its board. In his sleeve notes for the record, he writes, “The vast array of approaches by every band on here is astonishing. A lot of it quite defies categorisation but is always thrilling and extremely exciting and undeniably encouraging for the future of music from Northern Ireland.

“And this is just the tip of the iceberg, as waiting in the wings are hundreds of amazing bands, some of which we’ll hopefully get the chance to highlight on the (fingers-crossed) many albums we’ll put out in the future.”

To celebrate the album’s release on Monday April 21, four of the bands involved - General Fiasco, Cashier No.9, Panama Kings and mojoFURY - will play an afternoon gig at HMV, Donegall Arcade, Belfast.

Panama Kings guitarist Stuart Bell told AU, “We’re really proud to be involved, it’s a really strong record. We’re very keen to get behind Oh Yeah, not only because they got behind us from the very start but because we genuinely think it’s a really good thing to be involved in.”

Monday’s gig kicks off at 2pm and all four bands will be available to sign CDs afterwards.

The CD will be sold at HMV stores nationwide, at Phoenix Records in Belfast and via www.ohyeahbelfast.com and the sponsors www.carling.com
