The winner of the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize will be announced this evening with a swanky soiree at the Grosvenor Hotel, London. However, does the shortlist really represent the best of UK music over the past 12 months? I mean Adele?! What’s that about? Anyway, here’s the shortlist…
Adele – 19
British Sea Power – Do You Like Rock Music?
Burial – Untrue
Elbow – The Seldom Seen Kid
Estelle – Shine
The Last Shadow Puppets – The Age Of The Understatement
Laura Marling – Alas I Cannot Swim
Neon Neon – Stainless Style
Portico Quartet – Knee-Deep In The North Sea
Robert Plant And Alison Krauss – Raising Sand
Radiohead – In Rainbows
Rachel Unthank And The Winterset – The Bairns
Dubstep don Burial has been installed as the bookmaker’s favourite for an event which has previously thrown up all manner of surprises. Remember the year M People won for their album Elegant Slumming, in the process beating Parklife, Music For The Jilted Generation and His ‘n’ Hers? Crazy days. Anyway, here’s hoping that Radiohead win and Thom Yorke does something mental.
Let us know who you want to win and which albums you think should have been included at the AU Forum.
