New rock list hails My Bloody Valentine
'Loveless' beats U2 to top spot
The Irish Times has published a list of “the top 40 Irish albums” of all time, and the recently reconvened My Bloody Valentine come out top with their seminal album, ‘Loveless’. Compiled by four of the paper’s writers, the list encompasses 40 years of music from Van Morrison’s ‘Astral Weeks’ in 1968 to Snow Patrol’s ‘Eyes Open’ in 2006. Intriguingly, 1991 seems to have been the annus mirabilis of Irish music, with the top three albums all coming from that year – ‘Loveless’. ‘Achtung Baby’ by U2 (who have three albums on the list) and A House’s ‘I Am The Greates’. Something must have been in the water.
