The speculation stops here. Newly reformed indie legends Pavement have confirmed a date at Dublin’s Tripod venue for May 4 next year. However, this here press release insists that “a permanent reunion is not in the offing” and that “no new material is due for release”. So don’t come crying to us when they split up again a few months later.
The Californian band released five albums between 1992 and 1999, with the first two – Slanted And Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - regularly being hailed as among the finest indie-rock albums ever made. Since then, frontman Stephen Malkmus and guitarist Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg have embarked on solo careers, while bassist Mark Ibold joined Sonic Youth in 2006 and Steve West and Bob Nastanovich have also continued in music (amongst other things). Three weeks after their Dublin date, the band will headline Barcelona’s Primavera Sound festival alongside fellow indie dinosaurs the Pixies and many more. Tickets for the the Tripod show go on sale this Friday, priced at €34/38.50 (inc. booking fee).
