Bloc Party man preps new side project

Bloc Party may have a summer of American dates and festivals ahead of them (including supporting The Killers in Dublin’s Marlay Park at the end of August), but that hasn’t stopped guitarist Russell Lissack (he of the doe-eyed demeanour and triangular haircut) embarking on a new side project with New York-based singer-songwriter Milena Mepris.

Calling themselves Pin Me Down, the duo met when Mepris’s band Black Moustache supported Bloc Party in New York. They’ve since done some transatlantic collaboration and are to release their debut single, ‘Cryptic’, on supercool French label Kitsune on June 2. Described as ‘apocalyptic pop’ by Mepris, the single also features mixes by Phones (aka producer Paul Epworth) and Jamie Ellis. The pair have three London dates lined up, see below for those.

7 May: London, Water Rats
8 May: London, The Fly
9 May: London, Proud Galleries
