The line-up for this year’s trans Festival has been confirmed, and it’s as tasty as ever. The festival injects a bit of cultural vibrancy into Belfast every July – a month that is otherwise a bit of a craic black hole here – with events at venues around the city, but centred around the Waterfront Hall. Headline gigs announced today include Daddy G (Massive Attack), Simian Mobile Disco (DJ set), Micachu & The Shapes (pictured), Dananananaykroyd, Telepathe, Super Extra Bonus Party and (appropriately enough) Icelandic band FM Belfast.
There’s plenty of local interest too, not least a Smalltown America Vs The Richter Collective showcase, as the Derry boys’ representatives LaFaro and Calories square up to the Dublin label’s Not Squares and The Vinny Club. Opening the month’s festivities will be trans:mission, a three day showcase featuring 20 of Northern Ireland’s finest bands, including And So I Watch You From Afar, Moon Unit, Panama Kings, Lowly Knights, Panda Kopanda, Desert Hearts, When Pilots Eject and The Continuous Battle of Order. The festival runs from July 4-31 and includes all sorts of other courses, events and seminars. For more details, visit www.transbelfast.com.
