The Young Knives have announced that they are working on a book documenting life as a touring band. The tome will be comprised of the Oxfordshire band’s own experiences, as well as those of other bands, roadies and others.
Speaking to BBC 6Music, frontman Henry Dartnall said: “We’re doing an almost word of mouth history of touring bands. There’ll be a bit of us in there, but we’ll just tie it together with our own experiences when they’re interesting enough. We’re hopefully going to meet up with people who have good stories, not just people in bands, but roadies and stuff too.”
“People kinda slip into it… they run away for two years of their life and they’re on the road with a band and it strikes me as being pretty weird. We were brought up to expect to have normal working lives. To suddenly hit the road with all these people that have been doing it for years was quite a shock to the system and pretty interesting.”
No word yet on a name or release date, but Dartnall did also mention that work is underway on the Knives’ third album, the follow-up to Superabundance, which only came out in March.
“We’re writing our third album at the moment,” he said. “The way we do it seems to be pretty much nine-to-five on Monday to Friday, and then at the weekend we go and do festivals – so it’s like we’re working seven days a week.”
