Ablespacer, Vitaria
Limelight, Belfast
It’s only a pity there weren’t more people here to witness this, to see the chaos break and flow. Some 30 people stood, almost motionless, as Vitaria thrashed through their set. They attacked the audience with an artillery of songs heftier than Lisa Riley, yes, they were heavy alright, perhaps a little too much so for Ablespacer fans. In a different venue Vitaria would be King, but tonight they are mere pretenders to the throne.
In support of their glorious Butterfly Catch EP Ablespacer rocked, thrashed, twiddled and danced all over the place. It was organized chaos, oddly melodic and beautiful. They present three new tracks and you can’t help but feel honored to be present, the new material as good, if not better, than their more familiar songs. Ablespacer make some noise for a trio, a jaw dropping, awe inspiring noise. The audience might not have been massive but ‘Skyhook’ started a mass movement, the band able to summon mosh pits almost instantaneously.
It was an impressive sight, small-scale riots breaking out amongst the crazed crowd. The band has a presence just short of possessed, locked into a trance. It’s a bewildering sight, you’re not quite sure if they’re aware that the noise they are sharing is so beautiful, or that they even want to share it. They finish with ‘Trigger For Your Head’, the audience cocooned within the sounds they create, but that’s ok, for there is no finer space than the Able-bubble. Aaron Stoops
