Sycamore Meadows is the sound of Butch Walker serenading his former California home, which was reduced to embers in a wildfire, rendering his life’s work and possessions a pile of cinders in the wind. A phoenix rose and the egg that it laid is a chunk of American summer tuneage, rock ‘n’ roll in its sleekest form. Opener ‘The Weight of Her’ hugs that MOR white line, but there are captivating tracks in the like of ‘Here Comes The…’ and ‘Ponce De Leon Avenue’. Catchy, contemplative and occasionally raucous, Butch is the kinda guy you’d catch at a festival and come home singing his tunes and his praises. Jeremy Shields
