Review

Erstwhile Jurassic 5 MC Chali 2na’s solo debut has been a long time coming – one track (‘Don’t Stop’) first appeared back in 2006. Not that the delay has dulled the impact of 2na’s instantly recognisable, rapid-fire, deep-voiced delivery, which remains as awesome as ever. Musically speaking, it’s a remarkably varied journey through smooth soul (the aforementioned ‘Don’t Stop’), futuristic robo-funk (‘International’) and irresistible grooves (‘Comin’ Thru’). If it doesn’t always quite hang together, it’s at least never samey. The Talib Kweli-starring ‘Lock Shit Down’ and the playful hymn of praise to illicit spray-painting ‘Graff Time’ stand out on an album not short on highlights. Worth the wait. Neill Dougan
