Everything Is Simple is a gentle record, in fact if it was any gentler you could knock it over with a feather. Dan Lyth’s debut has some very engaging tunes and evokes the ambience of a forest clearing on a summer’s morning. Wistfulness, casio beats and light guitar strumming abound. Opener ‘Ben Nevis’ lays out the path of things to come, a song so quiet that it’s practically whispering at you. By comparison, lullaby ‘Castles’ is practically rocking. Elsewhere ‘Colour’ grasps for the sky on a soaring, glorious melody whilst ‘Take Me Up’ could be a High Llamas out-take. Everything Is Simple earns your affection with repeated listening but best not operate heavy machinery whilst listening to it. Jeremy Shields
