Goldfrapp - Caravan Girl
Mute
Goldfrapp’s latest album Seventh Tree may be a more subdued affair compared to their glamorous electro past, but a track like this shows they haven’t lost any of their drive. If their previous work found a home in the sordid world of late night clubs this song belongs to the great wide open, just aching to be played in the unique atmosphere provided by the humble car stereo. Synthesisers surge the melody along with a propellent bass and a healthy piano pulse which shows a fully realised and adept production, and the vocals are as charismatic as ever. It’s unlikely to achieve the ubiquity of previous single ‘Happiness’, but it’s sultry summer fare which invites you to join along in its own gleeful revelry. Matt Nesbitt
