Mogwai - Batcat (EP)

Perennial post-rock purveyors Mogwai are set to swoop, stick in hair, stab at faces, scratch out eyes and generally unsettle anyone who should cross their path. OK, that was a little tongue-in-cheek, but we had to get the jesting out of the way early as ‘Batcat’ is a serious thing – a behemoth of underwear-soiling proportions.

The track may be to forthcoming album The Hawk is Howling what ‘Glasgow Mega-Snake’ was to Mr. Beast. With the aid of grandiose percussion, incessantly penetrating bass and roar-to-squeal affected guitars, this time they’ve ramped the nastiness up to 11. A sure-fire head detonator for the live setting. The characteristics of a batcat? Fairly gruesome, one can only assume. Ron McCann
