Stereophonics – Decade In The Sun: The Best Of Stereophonics

V2

Once upon a time, the Stereophonics were a decent band. They escaped the routine of their one horse Welsh hometown by penning genuinely compelling pop songs that ranged from mini musical soap operas about their leek-loving neighbours, to tragic tales of local boys dying on train tracks. Fast-forward 10 years, though, and the trio are more renowned for using their songs to whinge about journalists and for writing rubbish lyrics about wake-up calls, coffee and juice. This album reflects the dichotomy of the Stereophonics’ career, as it juxtaposes the spark of that promising early material with the cynicism of their current drivel. If it were titled Two Years In The Sun and only featured songs from Word Gets Around and Performance and Cocktails, this would be a much better album. Ailís Corey
