Thank You - Terrible Two

Thrill Jockey

Battles’ Mirrored was one of the album highlights of 2007. It was a wonderfully unique excursion into the darkest recesses of the minds of a group of playful, yet talented sonic adventurers. However, if, as I suspect, it is responsible for this, Battles will need Johnny Cochrane and the ‘Chewbacca’ defence to save their reputation. Terrible Two is the product of a bunch of bandwagon-jumping chancers without a single fresh idea between them. Guitars chug and skitter under the wildly eclectic drum patterns like a mid-song jam in a Wedding Present live performance. There is no discernible melody, just a fluctuating beat, augmented by all manner of quirky improvisation, that grates over an entire album. Thank You are Campag Velocet to Battles’ Beta Band.
