The Clash - Live At Shea Stadium

Sony BMG

The Pistols may have taken the headlines, but in terms of influence there was no punk act to match The Clash. Captured here at the peak of their powers, the quartet sound just as committed, confrontational and essential as you always wanted them to be. All the classics are here, the sound is great and, unlike most live releases, this has the attraction of being a start-to-finish recording of a single gig, so there are no fade-outs or obvious edits to spoil the illusion. The ever-present and conveniently loud crowd ambience occasionally grates, but it’s a minor irritation on a great document of a legendary band. Lee Gorman
