Tori Amos - American Doll Posse

Epic

The idiosyncratic Amos returns with her lengthy ninth studio album, apparently variously written by her alter egos Santa, Clyde, Isabel, Tori, and Pip (each of whom, apparently, have their own blog). It’s as lyrically far-reaching as ever, despite starting with a pretty thin barb at George W. Bush called ‘Yo George’ (“where have we gone wrong, America? Is this the madness of King George?”). The album manages to flow smoothly despite its length (23 songs) and scope (stark piano-and-vocal ballads sit comfortably alongside fairly rowdy rock songs). Her new multiple personalty can make her lyrics impenetrable or even jarring, but there’s plenty to enjoy here.
